USLS MOOT COURT TEAM WINS THE 3RD NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION ON INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW (IHL) Read Official News from the Supreme Court Website USLS Moot Team Finishes as Semi-Finalist in Hong Kong USLS Mooters receiving the National Moot Court Cup (From left: Mooter Adylyn Dioso; SC Justice Adolfo Azcuna; Justice Leonor Ines Luciano; Mooter Michael Hanz Villaster; and ICRC Head of Delegation to the Philippines, Mr. Felipe Donoso) The University of St. La Salle College of Law Moot Court Team won the Third National Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) held from November 19 to 21, 2007, besting the University of the Philippines in the final round held at the Supreme Court En Banc Session Hall, Supreme Court Building, Padre Faura, Metro Manila. The preliminary and semi-final rounds in the competition sponsored by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with the Supreme Court and the Philippine Association of Law Schools, were held at Arellano University, Pasay City, Metro Manila. The USLS team, which took the more difficult respondent’s side in the final round, was composed of students Michael Hanz D. Villaster (3rd Year), Adylyn T. Dioso (2nd Year) and Jul Davi R. Pandan (1st Year), and coached by Atty. Ralph Sarmiento. To underscore their dominance of this year’s competition, involving an International Humanitarian Law problem, the USLS team also won the Best Memorial for its Prosecution Memorial and Third Best Memorial for its Defence Memorial. Other schools represented in the competition which is the biggest competition of its kind in the country, were Ateneo de Manila University, Arellano University, University of Sto. Tomas, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Silliman University, Xavier University, Ateneo de Davao, Cagayan State University and Cagayan Colleges of Tuguegarao. The final round was judged by several legal luminaries, with Associate Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court, Justice Adolfo Azcuna, as the President of the Court. Also present during the final round in Manila was the Dean of the College of Law, Atty. Raymundo T. Pandan, Jr., who received the much coveted Moot Court Cup for the team. The team will next compete in March 2008 at the Hong Kong High Court, representing the Philippines in the 6th Asia Pacific Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law.
